An 83-point performance, even if it's achieved through deliberate effort, is still an 83-point game.

When Adebayo scored 31 points in the first quarter, I thought he was finally going to surpass his previous record of, 41 points.

When he reached 43 points by halftime, I felt LeBron James' Heat franchise record of 61 points was in jeopardy.

When he finished the third quarter with 62 points, I believed Luka Doncic's active-player record of 73 points was at risk.

But I never imagined Kobe Bryant's 81 points would be surpassed by Adebayo, until the entire Heat team supported Adebayo in chasing this record, until Adebayo stood at the free-throw line, gradually closing the gap point by point, surpassing Doncic's 73 points, surpassing 80 points, and then I realized Kobe's 81-point mark was truly about to be overtaken.

Today was clearly a game where Adebayo was in exceptional form. With other key scorers on the Heat unavailable, Adebayo started hot, scoring 31 points in the first quarter on 10-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-8 from three-point range and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. This is the second-highest first-quarter scoring performance in NBA history, second only to Kevin Love's 34 points for the Cavaliers back then.

His outstanding shooting touch lasted only that quarter, but it created a substantial lead. Starting from the third quarter, Adebayo began frequently scoring from free throws. The Wizards, on one hand, genuinely couldn't contain his drives, and on the other hand, their overall competitive desire was low.

In the third quarter, Adebayo attempted 13 free throws, all legitimately earned from fouls, allowing him to break the Heat's franchise scoring record of 61 points by the end of the third quarter. Thus, the entire fourth quarter became Adebayo's stage to chase the record.

Having played the entire third quarter, he didn't rest in the fourth and continued scoring immediately. However, his stamina eventually waned; after passing to teammates a few times, he started drawing fouls to return to the free-throw line. In the entire fourth quarter, he made only three field goals but stepped to the free-throw line 16 times, converting 14.

Towards the end, the entire Wizards team realized they were becoming part of the record's backdrop and began triple-teaming Adebayo to force him to pass. To attempt shots, Adebayo had to hurriedly shoot from beyond the three-point line. As game time dwindled, the Heat, leading by over twenty points, even intentionally committed tactical fouls to delay time and increase possessions.

This is quite rare in NBA history. When Booker scored 70 points, his teammates also used tactical fouls to delay time, but in that game the Suns were trailing significantly, so tactical fouls were somewhat justified. Today, the Heat had dominated early yet still employed tactical fouls to increase possessions; the whole team went to great lengths to help Adebayo surpass Kobe.

Adebayo didn't disappoint his teammates, repeatedly drawing fouls amidst the Wizards' defensive pressure and consistently making free throws. By this point, the game had completely changed nature, becoming a grand spectacle staged by the entire Heat team and Adebayo to surpass Kobe, a scene the home crowd gladly witnessed.

When he reached 83 points via free throws, Coach Spoelstra finally substituted him, ending this scoring spectacle. For the game, Adebayo shot 20-of-43 from the field, 7-of-22 from three-point range, and 36-of-43 from the free-throw line, totaling 83 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

Adebayo's 46.5% field goal percentage in this game is the lowest among all historical single-game 70+ point performances and the only one below 50%. Additionally, his 43 free-throw attempts set a new NBA record, previously surpassed only by Dwight Howard's two games with 39 attempts when he was intentionally "hacked."

If Adebayo had stopped after surpassing Doncic's 73 points, even if there were still signs of deliberate scoring, his reputation would have been much better than now. But Kobe's record was right there, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, how easy is it to just stop?

This was a chance to etch his name into history. Years later, when discussing scoring records, people might only mention first place as Wilt Chamberlain's 100 points and second as Adebayo's 83 points, and few will care how those 83 points were achieved. Chamberlain's 100-point game itself was also heavily fed by teammates, essentially manufactured.

Since Kobe's 81-point game twenty years ago, people have repeatedly discussed who might approach or break this record. Once, Luka Doncic came very close with an极致表现 of 25-of-33 shooting, and he was considered the most likely to surpass Kobe.

But who could have imagined that Adebayo, whose previous single-game scoring record was only 41 points before today, would actually become the one to surpass Kobe. When his first-quarter performance exploded, it seemed like opening Pandora's box, releasing all possibilities, and truly turning "impossible" into reality.

Some moments arrive unexpectedly. Today, Adebayo's girlfriend, also a basketball superstar A'ja, attended the game, explaining Adebayo's immense motivation. However, I prefer the post-game镜头 of Adebayo embracing his mother.

If you understand Adebayo's journey—the child who grew up living with his mother in a rundown RV—today he wrote his name into history. History holds its significance; perhaps the greatest meaning of these 83 points is that Adebayo became a child who made his mother proud today.
